Let’s talk about rate for a moment
48
To calculate rate, we need two things:
  • How much?
  • In How long?
49
To calculate rate, we need two things:
  • How much?
    • # correct responses
    • # incorrect responses
  • In How long?
    • Length of the timing
50

51
An example…
  • We time Kris for 30 seconds.  In that 30 seconds, she gets 14 corrects and 2 errors.
  • What is her rate of correct and incorrect responding per minute?
52
The Answer…
  • There are 2 30-second blocks of time in 1 minute

  • So, we multiply her counts by 2
    • 14 correct in 30-seconds = 28 correct per minute
    • 2 errors in 30-seconds = 4 errors per minute
53
Let’s try another example…
  • In 15-seconds, Shane reads 50 words correctly and reads 6 words incorrectly
  • What should we put on Shane’s chart?
54
The answer…
  • There are 4 15-second blocks of time in every minute

  • We multiply his corrects and incorrects by 4 to chart them
    • 50 correct words in 15-sec = 200 correct words per minute
    • 6 incorrect words in 15-sec = 24 incorrects per minute

Let’s try another example…
  • In 10-seconds, Ali writes 5 correct answers and 2 incorrect answers to addition math facts on Wednesday.
  • What should we put on Ali’s chart?
59
The answer…
  • There are 6 10-second blocks of time in every minute

  • We multiply her corrects and incorrects by 6 to chart them
    • 5 correct answers in 10-sec = 30 correct words per minute
    • 2 incorrect words in 10-sec = 12 incorrects per minute
